More about the new OBCLG site

Dear OBCLG members

You may have noticed a recent email about a bat workshop. This was an automated form of notification that comes from our new site. The site will continue to bring you the latest news from the Group. The bat email provides you with a link to the news item and also to an archive of all documents and postings relating to our Group. This is a new form of website that brings information to you. The site is created dynamically and allows you to talk back. If you take a few moments to explore the site, you will notice:

  1. Only an excerpt of the post appears. You can read the rest by pressing ‘read on’ at the bottom
  2. Underneath the full post you will find a comment box where you can have your say. You simply type in some words and press ‘Add your comment.’ Your words will then appear attached to the post.
  3. Below this you will see a list of recent postings (some are not so recent because I’ve just added them to the site). To the right, you will also see a list of categories. If you press a category e.g. River Indicator project you will see a list of related postings. Some items are listed in several categories.
  4. You can also use the search box to find anything you might be looking for on the site. Simply type in a search term and press your Enter key.
  5. Please feel free to comment on what you see. I am especially interested to hear your reactions to this new kind of space. Is it fast or slow? Can you find your way around?

Down the track, I will be showing you new features as you get used to the environment. Best wishes

Simon Pockley

Secretary OBCLG
